Identification and interpretation of genetic basis of human traits such as height, IQ, and temperament, has been source of considerable debates from beginning of such studies. And rightly so, as there are number of implications for society associated with diverse interpretations. Focus on debate that took place at beginning of the last century. Mechanism of inheritance of traits such as height was not clear; emerging field of statistics contributed to establish existence of genetic basis for them. Founding father of statistics R.A. Fisher proposed mathematical models to explain inheritance. This is ideal example to understand role of statistics in framing what can be considered as scientific truth with particular reference to genetics - and what are terms of its implication in society.
